For cutting the site of the Church and Government offices. Report and Estimate 4.5 of 10116, the sum of £136-12, has been paid; the balance of the Estimate £34. 210a will be expended in cutting cock and stepping the ground East of the Church, previous to the opening of the Gaols.
On a Report of 8th May 1845, the sum of £110. 8s 4d was paid, making the total expenditure £241 5s 1d, leaving a balance of £1123. 12s 7d for construction of some works which it is intended not to carry out for the service may therefore be said to be completed. The final payment £62.10 – was made during the year on account of the walls to Gaol, Report 16th January 1846, which have been completed in a satisfactory manner.

In consequence of the recommendations of a Board which was appointed by Sir J. Davis to make certain enquiries and suggestions regarding the Gaols, for increasing the accommodation, improving the ventilation, supply of Water, etc., a Report and Estimate, dated 1st January 1847, was prepared by embodying the whole of the propositions, and showing that the cost of carrying out the same would be £1,634-3s. 10d. At this period the Gaol was very crowded, and an expenditure of £65. 15s was authorised for the purpose of increasing the ventilation at once:
